Five years ago (or so), I developed a macular hole in my left eye. It was like having a bullet hole in the middle of the glass that was my field of vision. I'm back. My eye is patched, so I can't see what kind of vision I have in it. I get to take the patch off tonight if I want -- otherwise it can wait until I see the doctor tomorrow for a follow-up.

My eye hurts and I feel logy -- right now, I think a nap is the best option.

I'm having cataract surgery in my left eye today. My ride should be here in about 10 minutes.

When I had my vitrectomy last year for the macular hole in my retina, I was warned that the surgery would almost certainly cause a cataract to develop in that eye. Thursday, I took the train from Chicago to Minneapolis. All went well; I didn't have a seat to myself, but my seatmate was a former nurse who knit and had a disabled husband, which meant we had lots in common to talk about. Tomorrow afternoon I see the retinologist, and if he's still happy with rhe results, I get to hold my head up again. My neck and back are sore from the unnatural position, despite the Valium prescription.
